Three Generations of Quality

Quality Ready Mix has been owned and operated by the Hirschfeld Family for three generations. It started as Quality Sand & Gravel near Fryburg, Ohio in the late 1920's by brothers Herb and Elmer Hirschfeld. In addition to serving agriculture in the area, they were major suppliers in the construction of Memorial High School in St. Marys in 1926. Quality successfully struggled through the Depression and even enlisted the help of Herb's wife Selma as a truck driver when men were not available to drive during WWII.
Quality Ready Mix was born when the second generation of Hirschfelds joined the company in the late 1940's. Herb's sons Howard and Bob pooled their money to buy 2 ready mix trucks and set up business at the Fryburg sand & gravel pit and in St. Marys, Ohio.  The ready mix business was significantly boosted in the mid-1950's with the construction of Interstate 75 where overpasses poured by Quality are still in use today.
Bob Hirschfeld's quest to establish a longterm source of stone & sand was realized in 1980 with the opening of ConAg, Inc., a limestone quarry north of St. Marys in Noble Township. Con-Ag. a sister company, provides a critical source of aggregates produced under highly controlled conditions, helping ensure the consistency of Quality Ready Mix' concrete products. Con-Ag also provides the local area with a readily available source of high quality aggregates for residential, commercial, industrial, governmental and agricultural applications.
Quality Ready Mix added a new technical level of expertise to the business when John Hirschfeld, Bob's son, joined the company in 1989.  John holds a BS in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University. He has, over the past 17 years, developed Quality's extensive concrete research & development program. He oversees, today, all the company's ready mix operations.
Quality Ready Mix significantly expanded its geographic scope between 1992 and present.
In the 1990's, a plant serving Lima and surrounding market was opened close to the Lima interchange of I-75 and SR 81. Continuing to expand northward, a plant in Bluffton opened in the late 90's, just off I-75 on the grounds of the Bluffton Quarry which supplies but is not owned by Quality. In Summer 2007, Quality's newest plant opened in the booming industrial area of Lima Shawnee, on SR 25, close to the I-75 & Breese Rd. interchange.
Another third generation Hirschfeld, Bob's daughter Teri, joined Quality in 2006, adding another facet of expertise to the company -sales, marketing, and organization & strategic development. Teri brings 25 years of business experience, including a BS from The Ohio State University, an MBA from Northwestern University and 17 years in marketing management with Procter & Gamble.
